This body of work began as I prepared for a show at the James A. Michener Museum of Art in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The work followed up and in some cases overlapped with the pieces in the Canopus series. Essentially, many of the sculptures still contained the basic elements of my early winged armor pieces. Here they were distilled and clarified: the wings becoming more expressive and definitive, the passages and vessels more implied in the negative spaces in each piece. As the pieces developed in the studio, each named itself as it began to take form. They became less part of a series and more individual, each in its own right. They continue to develop in this way.
