Years after completing the classical pool house for my clients, they called to ask if I could come up with a sculpture for their new house on Longboat Key in Florida. This was to be their “empty nest” home, a new start for their retirement. As much as they enjoyed their traditional style home in Pennsylvania, this residence was meant to be different — contemporary, clean and spare. The fountain design I conceived for the pool area was based on a video I saw depicting a Japanese crane’s dance. The crane is a symbol of longevity, health and happiness, so it seemed appropriate.
